The Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement) is an Association created in 1993 that has encouraged Italian wineries to open their doors to visitors: Italy has now become the country of “Cantine Aperte”. MTV’s goal is to promote wine tourism and improve the image and prestige of wine areas, as well as their economic development. MTV wants to stand for protection of the environment and for quality agriculture; promoting a natural life-style that puts the visitor at the centre of attention. Among the 1000 members of the Association are some of Italy’s most prestigious wineries, selected on the basis of very precise characteristics, the first of which is their high quality of visitor hospitality.
The regional association Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia embraces more than 70 wineries. Although limited in area, Friuli Venezia Giulia has an ancient tradition of viticulture and produces great wines that are known and admired all over Italy and in the rest of the world.
It is located inside one of the most beautiful hilly areas of the region, the triangle between Udine, Cividale and Cormòns, made of woods, vineyards, sparse farmhouses, some ancient villa hidden in the green and a severe abbey-fortress: a paradise environment surrounded by those industrial establishments that have made the famous ‘Chair Triangle’ known throughout the world. This naturalistic island is enriched by the “ponca”, the soil consisting of thick deposits of calcareous clays and marls, very precious for the rich extensions of vineyards which, alternated with woods and sparse farmhouses, give the finest wines of the region.

The Tombacco family has passionately cultivated the land and the vine since 1968. Thanks to the knowledge of traditional Friulian vinegrowing and winemaking, but never neglecting innovation and the environmental protection, our winery is now one of the protagonists of regional winemaking. Quality, innovation, passion, respect of our history and of our land, openness to the future: these are the values characterising our philosophy and our wines. For the Tombacco family the land is not something you can fully own: you can just take excellent care of it and keep it, to hand it down to future generations. “A broad stony spot, polished by the wind and the water”, the magredi area represents one of the last examples of steppe landscape: meagre, arid, stony… This is where our vineyards have their roots, resulting in wines particularly fresh and elegant.

Santa Margherita represents the starting point of the Santa Margherita Wine Group, founded by Count Gaetano Marzotto in 1935, which gradually developed into a real “wine making mosaic” with its own wineries and vineyards in some of Italy’s most beautiful regions: Eastern Veneto, the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hills, Alto Adige with Kettmeir winery, Lugana with Cà Maiol, Tuscany with Chianti Classico, with the beautiful Lamole di Lamole estate and the restaurant Vitique, Maremma, Sicily and Sardinia. Indissolubly linked to its icon wine – Pinot Grigio, ancestor of an entire generation of new Italian white wines, market leader for more than fifty years, distributed in 90 countries – Santa Margherita made its ability to innovate, its managerial structure, its technological development, its quality and sustainability – environmental and social – its distinctive traits. There are actually two constants at the centre of our daily routine: the vineyard and men.
