Vitoria-Gasteiz is a city made on a human scale: intermediate and compact, is in an environment of great biological and landscape richness, with a great residential, commercial, wine and gastronomy and cultural offer and a high quality of life. It has also managed to combine its 10 centuries of history -as evidenced by an important heritage-, with avant-garde architectural manifestations. In this sustainable tourist destination, which occupies the first European position in terms of green areas, a system of paths connect with the rural area, with priority given to cycling and pedestrian mobility. There is a natural belt, with the parks of the Green Belt at the head, and another agrarian one, responsible for the local product culture, and the fact that here eating is much more than feeding. Something reinforced also by the proximity to a wine area of great importance such as Rioja Alavesa.

The Ministry of Tourism, Trade & Consumer Affairs of the Basque Government leads the consolidation of the Basque Country as a tourist destination and defines the strategy for the region for the next years. According to this strategy, Gastronomy and wine tourism are established as one of the main products to be boosted. Although high class basque gastronomy and Rioja Alavesa wines are more and more well-known all around the world, it is important to mention some other aspects that make the offer complete, such as txakoli wines, cider houses, pintxos, cheese makers and some gastronomy experiences ideal for food and wine lovers.

Bodegas BAIGORRI is located in the town of Samaniego, 26km from Logroño, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria. A glass box, perfectly integrated into its surroundings, emerges from a privileged location in Rioja Alavesa. It was designed and built by the architect Iñaki Aspiazu, who tailored the building to the unique way our wines are made, creating an architectural landmark in the area which blends with its surroundings. The building is fully adapted to the existing topography and to the work carried out underneath its surface. It is a wide-open space, where cleanliness and order impress the visitor. A space that shows in full view and in an instructive manner the winemaking process at harvest time.

Granbazán Winery, founded in 1981, is located in the Salnés Valley, in the heart of Rías Baixas. Granbazán is one of the first and most beautiful châteaux of Galicia, surrounded by a sea of vineyards. The Tremoedo plantation is a reference in the Rías Baixas Appelation of Origin, just three kilometres away from Cambados, wine capital of albariño and a dream destination to enjoy the surroundings, learn about the viticulture of the area and taste the full range of Granbazán wines.

Bodegas Luis Alegre was founded in 1968 and, since its origin, our philosophy has been working to get the highest quality. We work with a firm objective: to elaborate wines with personality. To do it, we combine evolution and tradition, optimizing and even reinventing what already exists, always respecting the tradition and the wine heritage. This fusion made us being pioneers at the use of the selection table. All of our grapes are hand selected.

Assignan is a small village located in the South of France. 24 refined guestrooms and suites in several different houses, and a hotel concierge located in the former grocery... Castigno offers a cuisine in their 3 restaurants where organic and creative cooking combine with a passion for the finest local produce, making every meal a memorable one. To celebrate the 10 years of Château Castigno wines a new winery is built in the form of a bottle of 80 meters long and got voted the most beautiful winery of France. The building is entirely covered with bark from cork oak, giving it a raw natural aspect perfectly in keeping with the natural environment. Viewed from above the bottle shape is clearly visible.

The Diputación Foral de Álava has among its powers the promotion of tourist attractions in the province, the improvement of infrastructures and services aimed at visitors, and the training and qualification of workers of companies in the sector. It also promotes the launch of new tourism products through various programs. Wine is our business card all over the world. Wine tourism and enogastronomy are therefore fundamental axes of the tourism strategy of the institution with the Rioja Alavesa region as its maximum exponent. Rioja Alavesa, one of the three subzones in which the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin (DOC Rioja) is divided, has nearly 300 centuries-old and avant-garde wineries that have been producing wines of recognized international prestige for centuries. Its offer is completed with a well-preserved landscape and medieval villages. Ayala, and its wineries of txakoli, a high quality white wine, are the second focus of wine tourism in Álava

Wine & Senses is an innovative experience to enjoy wine culture and heritage across Europe. A COSME European Project whose aim is to create a unique transnational touristic route that will mix sensorial experiences, wine tasting and sustainable tourism in five countries which represent over half the production of wine in the EU and have been elected also for their important cultural heritage background: Duero/Douro region (Spain and Portugal), South Moravia (Czech Republic), Tokaj – Mad (Hungary) and Cinque Terre (Italy). Wine & Senses will make a link between cultural heritage, territory identity and wine tourism in a common, transnational model, as any territory will be able to adapt it to its own characteristics.
